Week 24- 6 months!

We've been busy starting to get ready for the Penguin in the last couple of weeks. I'm in the process of refinishing the dressers we bought so they match the crib. Matt's mom was so sweet to offer to make the nursery bedding so we've been picking out fabrics. We registered for the rest of the things we "need" at Target and Babies R Us. The baby books don't prepare you for the overwhelming decisions when it comes to that... Biggest meltdown = stroller.

The top picture is from the Black Out for Cancer event last weekend. We also went to Symphony After Sundown to hear the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Relax by the Tracks to listen to some great local musicians, and went to a fun little party held in the Japanese garden at the botanical gardens. I am very excited to be able to take everyone down to our new Railroad Park when you come visit this fall! It was named the Best New Park in America 2011 and we just love it.

The Penguin is growing steadily. I'm still working out almost every day- lifting some weights, yoga, running and/or swimming laps. This last week marked the momentous addition of maternity wear into the wardrobe, which at least means more options, but most of it is still a bit too big. I've gained 10.5 lbs and my waist is officially bigger around than Matt's (not that he is exactly giant). At the end of this week the Penguin should be nearly 2 pounds and about 13".

Week 21

Ultrasound 21 weeks

20 weeks 5 days

This has been a big week for the Wolfpack! Although Matt tried to convince me to let the sex be a surprise, I just couldn't wait four more months to know if we're getting a boy or a girl. Originally Matt wanted a boy, but within a few weeks changed his mind to wanting a girl. I had a hunch it was a boy all long... and I was right! He measures in at 10" and 12 oz, which is right on target for 21 weeks.

Later that night I could feel him kicking up a storm, which has been happening for about three weeks. Matt finally got to feel it too! Definitely an indescribable feeling. The Penguin is very active and we are pretty sure he's practicing his kickball moves so he can start playing in a newborn league. A recent article suggests that a newborn baby will keep the same schedule it has in utero. That might not be too bad since for now the Penguin wakes up at 5:30am and is most active from 9-11pm.
